Construction of the golf course was launched in autumn 2005. It is hoped that it will be completed in Autumn 2007. Some 20m Euros will be invested in this project which is based on Nicklaus design, it will cover 870,000sq.m., will be 7,071 metres long, and will be almost 12km in circumference.

The Ibar Golf Club, and the local municipality have promised that the new golf course will meet the standards of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and the Professional Golfers' Association of America.

Dolna Bania is some 8kms from Kostenets town and it has a small winery where local wines can be sampled. It also has a flying school whose landing strip may be expanded once the golf course opens.
